Fuck You, Peta.

Well, I just had to say it.

Have you guys seen their latest brilliant idea?

First of all, this ad is total crap. I gain weight when I eat vegetarian because it means: Bread, sugar, pasta, potatoes. I lost 55 pounds on a low carb diet with lotsa lotsa meat involved. Now of course you can be a slim veg-head. My brother is a good example. I'm just saying, this ad is a lie and it's a huge insult, and it's CRAP.

Why can't they go back to making us all feel like crap about ourselves through conventional means like this:

...instead of blatantly putting out a huge sign to condemn the beached whale fatties of this country? Of course it's because we can't stop shoving hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken wings and pork chops into our faces that we're fat. Yup.

I always wonder what they expect from something like this. Someone to say, "Thank you PETA!!! Thank you for making me realize the error of my ways. I'll stop eating meat now just because your billboard with a fat woman in a polka dot bathing suit had opened my eyes." Seriously? I can't imagine anything coming from an ad like this except: 1. Pissing off a lot of fat people. 2. Pissing off a lot of women. 3. Giving moronic fraternity brothers and bitchy Rodeo Drive soccer moms a good self centered, brainless laugh.

That's about all I can say about this right now.

You should check out a few improvements on the banner here and here.

Oh, and Fashionista did a great post about it here as did Kate Harding over at Shapely Prose here.

On another note, 192 as a weigh in today. Woo-hoo! 2 more pounds and I'll be down 35 pounds and out of the obese range. I'm very, very close. ((Then I won't be a huge beached whale drowning in my own blubber anymore. I'll only be a seal with a moderate amount of blubber. Right, PETA?))

Holy shit, that is OFFENSIVE! It makes me want to eat more meat out of spite.

You rock! Look, I love animals. I have two rescue dogs and I get sad when my husband kills a deer. But you know what? Humans and have survived for hundreds of years BECAUSE OF MEAT. PETA needs to start caring more about people than animals. Where is the humanity? FYI: Congrats on the weight loss. And I've been checking out your AWESOME photo blog. You are a woman of many talents, you meat eater you!

PETA has a game plan that works: do high-profile stuff that steps up to and often crosses the line of good taste and decency. Most of the publicity comes from people talking and writing and blogging about it. They get tons of free publicity for a very small media spend.

PETA seems to have gone far astray from its original, laudable message. They lost me a long time ago with their crude advertising. The worst was when they compared eating meat to the Holocaust. Um, no.

Congrats on the loss!!!!!

Let me preface this by saying I love animals, etc.

Now, I disagree with Jack Sh*t about the assumption that any publicity is good publicity. Though PETA is one of the ultimate high profile "shock" advocacy groups, I think most everything they do make people hate them.

For instance, I would have said "Fuck You, Peta" yesterday, and a year ago, and I will again 5 years from now.

They're a retarded organization that truly believe that being offensive through marketing and supporting inane, ludicrous things to make a "statement" are the best ways to get people to be good to animals.

And yea, it sucks they made fun of fat people, but, everyone does. That's reason #456 out of 13,569 as to why being fat sucks.

As for why PETA sucks, it's simply because of who they are and what they do, always.

Congratulations on your loss this week! I just got myself out of the obese category, and it feels great! You'll be there VERY soon!

PETA's a dumbass. Plain and simple.

Wow! I had not seen that ad! But you're right - I hate it. Congrats on the loss! You're doing great!

PETA sucks, and always will. That being said, you rock! I wish I could say I'm right behind you with the weight loss, but the scale keeps giving me the raspberry.

Eating meat doesn't make you fat because it doesn't provoke an insulin response like carbohydrates do. I think Veganism has some benefits for the first few years because it is a low calorie way of eating and results in weight loss (while stored B vitamins found predominantly in red meat) are being depleted.

In the long run, you may find your hair lacks shine, your muscle tone is flabby and that you have stubborn fat that won't come off. I saw it myself, I was 90+% vegetarian for almost 10 years.

Wow, that's amazing... I mean really. I'm an animal lover, though not a vegetarian, and I find it remarkable that people who roll animals back into the ocean have seemingly no care for other human beings. Idiots.

Hi,

First of all congratulations at being the Blog of Note today.

A vegetarian diet involves eating vegatables, bread, sugar are not vegetables.

Try some vegetables with your meat, it is good for you and perhaps you could also try eating fruit.

A varied diet is the best, also try eating organic meat from animals that have not been force fed at the end of their lives and given huge doses of antibiotics in animal fattening pens.

If all the meat that is eaten were from free range animals it would be better but that is not how it works.

The desire for cheap meat means bad and cruel treatment for the animals plus long term health risks for the people eating this meat.

That is the worrying thing that people seem to be oblivious to the health risks to themselves.

Perhaps being well informed is the key here to better healthier lives for us all.

Have a good day.
Love,
Herrad

As an animal rescuer and sometime activist, this ad is full of crap.

The vegetarian diet almost put me in the hospital- apparently I'm severely reactive hypoglycemic. Three strawberries is enough to push my blood sugar really high- the only reason potatoes don't is because of the butter I loaded them with. Fat slows down the spike. I also got heavy; too many sugars and fats in the diet causing glucose intolerance or something like that. Vegetarianism might be good for SOME people, but definitely NOT for everyone!

Also, animal protein is essential for muscle building and brain function. It's part of the genetic package of every homo sapien on the planet. We're omnivores by nature. No animal protein (and the enzymes that come with it), it messes things up. Plant proteins don't work the same way, and we barely absorb protein from plants to begin with. Stick with the occasional lean meats, and everyone's fine.

Hello There!

I'm a vegan but I am not a supporter of PETA and their misogynist (not to mention other-ist) messages. I would just like to make note that not all us vegans support this kind of message and there are a lot of incredible things about veganism that I believe are lost in these kinds of horrifying messages. It has definitely turned my health around for the better and for that I am grateful.
Not that you were saying that at all in this post (I gathered none of that actually)...but everytime I see peta associated with veg*sm (veg*sm being something I really do believe in) it makes my skin crawl and feel like I have to wave my hands and scream "WE ARE NOT ALL LIKE THIS!!" lol

Anyway, that being said, I'm glad to have found your blog and I look forward to learning more about you! :)
