American Idol - Top 8 Performances

Tonight's theme is "Songs from the Year you were Born" -- this is always an interesting one, and it usually ends with Simon saying they chose the wrong song. "With so many great songs from that year, why did you pick THAT one?"

We'll see how many times he says it tonight. :)

Danny Gokey - Stand By Me (1980) - I love this song. Last time I said I wanted to hear him sing a slower song so I could REALLY hear him SING. This week seemed to be that chance. Though he's extremely likable, he's definitely not the best singer in the group. I like him so much, I hate to say that I have not once finished watching him sing and said, "WOW."

Chris Allen - All She Wants to Do is Dance (1985) - I like him a lot. And I love that he went into the center of the crowd. It makes him seem like a big star. I don't know about the song choice - probably because I don't know the song. I think he's damn adorable though.

Lil Rounds - What's Love Got To Do With It (1984) - What an awesome song for her to do. Zomg. The only thing I can say is that though she did a few different things with the melody, a lot of it sounded very much like a copy cat performance. But I loved the way she ended it, and overall, best of the night so far.

Anoop Desai - True Colors (1986) - Cool choice... in fact, really good choice. He's got such a great voice. He did a really nice job - my favorite of the night so far. Oh, I love his sweater too.

Scott MacIntyre - The Search is Over (1986) - The guitar move was ambitious and I like a bit of the vocal stuff he brought out tonight, but his pitch was off in a few places. There needs to come a point where people stop voting him in because he's the blind guy. Seriously. He seems sweet and he's likable, but his TALENT does not stand up. I feel really bad for the guy - he seems really nice. :(

Allison Iraheta - I can't Make You Love Me (1992) - Oh boy I'm old. Someone so talented born in 1992??? WHAT? Okay. I love this song. I love her outfit. I love her voice. This girl is a BAD ASS. This is my favorite performance of this song on this show. That means over the likes of Kimberley Locke and Constantine Maroulis.

Matt Giraud - Part Time Lovers - I do NOT understand why this guy keeps ending up in the bottom 3 - he's one of the MOST talented guys in the whole damn group. And he's WAY sexy... Do people NOT hear him singing? WHAT THE HELL? He's phenomenal. And I think it ws a good choice for him to not do the piano thing tonight. It was great.

Adam Lambert - Mad World - This is one of my FAVORITE songs ever. He's just got to win this thing... holy crap. He's so dramatic and talented, this was AWESOME. Getting a standing ovation from Simon Cowell just sums it right on up, baby.

Cyclopses, Jedi's and Taxidermy.

Read this, then you'll understand what I'm talking about.

If you ever wanted to feel inspired to quit your job, this article is for you. It won't give you warm and fuzzy feelings about how "it'll all be okay"... nope. But what it will do, is make you wanna go, "HELL YEAH!"

This woman quit her job to give herself a year to be a writer. I love it.

I'm on a Boat.

Dan told me about this video tonight and I was really upset that I didn't see this before sailing out on the Mayercraft. It's totally how you feel when you sail out day one.

There's some profanity, so you might not want to turn this way up if you're at work or at home chillin' with the kids. But watch it.... seriously, it's hilarious and awesome.

Anyone who went on the cruise agree? Yeahhhhhhh ya do.

Honestly?

I'm having a little bit of trouble getting in touch with myself. I have blogged all about the cruise but not about how I truly felt through it. I've posted photos but not really told you about my experiences. I've put up five or six John Mayer related blogs because I've been in a JM coma for the last two weeks and it's all I can put out there. (No, seriously. I've easily wasted the equivalent of six solid hours a night at TRY JM, reading interviews, watching YouTube clips and looking at photos.)

I certainly haven't talked much about weight and weight loss progress because I'm sort of hiding from it right now.

Things are good. Weight's basically the same. My self image is low. My happiness in life is fairly high. I'm in a confused state.

I suppose I'm stuck in the middle of figuring myself out. I'm sorry that means I'm giving less in terms of real updates and sharing. Maybe I'll work it out soon and share something worthwhile.

I'll be around, I promise.

Mayer Monday.

Today I'd like to welcome my guest blogger, John Mayer!

Yeah. This is actually one of the columns he wrote for Esquire a long time ago, but it inspires me, and I hope it inspires you. Get ready for a new variety of Mayer Monday.

This is Your Life, The Mix Tape.

A few weeks ago I was lying in bed in my hotel room, falling asleep to my XM satellite radio, when I decided to spend some time on the '40s station. I was looking for the oldest music I could find. I'm obsessed with time lately, constantly crunching the numbers to get some sense of where I stand in the continuum. I instantly thought of my dad, who would be able to call out the artist and title of every song that played as if they were hits today. And then I wondered, where in his life was he when he first heard Art Mooney's "Bluebird of Happiness"?

So I sent him an e-mail. "I would love to hold a mix CD of the songs you remember most from your youth," I wrote. "Would you think about it and tell me some names and titles? How cool would that be for me to fall asleep to a record of all the tunes you loved growing up?" The more I thought about it, the more I needed to have it. Your life's soundtrack is your fingerprint, tracing all the individual way points, taking into account all the curveballs, surprises, and heartbreaks.

Dad wrote me back the next morning. "The first song that I can remember hearing is 'The Music Goes 'Round and Around,' by Tommy Dorsey. ('I blow through here / the music goes round and round / whoa-ho-ho-ho/and it comes out here.') The first piece of sheet music I ever bought was 'Serenade in the Night.' My first record was 'Tales from the Vienna Woods.' I bought it secondhand, and it had a crack in it. When I hear the song played now, I still unconsciously expect it to repeat over and over at the point of the crack."

So I went to iTunes and downloaded all three. I won't tell you what they sound like, because it won't mean anything to you. You have to know my dad. But I can tell you this: All the megapixels in the universe won't capture what asking your parents for a list of the music that moves them can. I'm nine minutes into "Tales from the Vienna Woods" and I can smell the house my father was born in. And with more of his memories to come, I can't stop crunching the numbers.

And here's a fun vid for any Lady Ga Ga fans or Ellen fans out there. (Travis Wilson, I'm talkin' to you.)

Enjoy,

Weight Quandaries.

I am in a weird place.

I would love to wake up tomorrow and be 50 lbs lighter. I also have never felt freakin' lazier.

Yesterday I didn't eat so well. We went to Dan's Grandmother's funeral and they had food there. Then the b-day celebration for Christina last night. Here's my rough food intake yesterday:

Breakfast:
1 large bowl cereal w/ 3/4 cup milk
1 diet coke

@ The Funeral - starving!:
1 slice kringle
1 cup coffee w/ 2 creamers and 2 sweet n lows

Lunch @ funeral reception:
1 diet coke
1 cup mashed potatoes
1/4 cup gravy
1/2 cup stuffing
1 roll, 2 pads butter
3/4 cup fruit
1/2 cup coleslaw
1 slice cheesecake thing with cherries on top

Dinner @ birthday thing:
2 pieces garlic toast
1/2 piece mozzarella marinara
3 slices 12" veggie thin crust pizza
10 diet cokes

Don't judge me for the diet cokes - I was DD last night.

So yeah, I'm just feelin' tired this morning and I feel puffy from all the salt intake (I could REALLY taste it in the stuffing.) -- I haven't been active and I feel like a blob!

At the same time last night Christina was so sweet and said, "You look so great, I can really tell you've lost weight." And of course that made me feel good and not like a loser for eating that pizza. But then I saw the pictures she snapped of me while I sang karaoke, and next to her and her 6 other THIN and GORGEOUS friends, I wanted to stab myself in the face.

May's right - all you need to snap back to reality is to try on bathing suits or see photos of yourself. UGH.

I hate this feeling and I really just want to get back to normal.

Espose. Hu-larious.

If I could wake up to a video like this every morning, I think I'd always be in a good mood.

There's a fine line between clever and stupid. I don't know which this is, but it's funny as hell.
