Just a quickie...

Hello all!

Well, I've arrived in Denver, and I'm hanging out with a few friends at the Barker.  (A low-key bar.)  Yes, we're dork-nerds.  Yes, we hang out with our laptops and blog/work/write at this bar.  Hey, I said it was low-key.

I'm photographing the wedding of a very old and dear friend tomorrow, and then will be spending a weekend with friends and family.  Super Bowl Sunday:  with my Parents!  Dan is flying in to Denver on Saturday.

Monday Dan and I are flying out to Vegas.  For the first time, ever, in my life.  I'm 27 and I've never been to Las Vegas!  I'm stoked.  We're spending a few nights there and flying back to Denver on the 11th.  One more day in Denver, then back to Milwaukee on the 13th, just in time for Valentine's day.

We're staying at The Flamingo.  So... any Vegas tips for me before we fly out?

You are making me miss home. I am from Colo. Springs and I was always in Denver. Who wouldn't be right? My brother is a general manager at BLT Burger. Let me tell you that place rocks. It's in The Mirage. Don't even get me started on the dessert menu! Yummy!!! I went to Vegas again this last summer before I moved to Germany. Had a blast!

Vegas is AWESOME! I go there at least six times a year. A food suggestion: They just opened a restaurant called Hash House A Go Go inside the Imperial Palace right next to the Flamingo. If you want a cheat meal, GO THERE! The food is ah-maze-ing. Also the Qua spa is Caesars is the nuts. Have fun. Try the Quick Hits slot machines. They pay out often.

I've never been to Vegas. But then I'm not American. Mut I have been to 11 other states (other than NV, I mean).

Enjoy it, jetsetter!

Just wanted to stop in and say I've been following your blog for a while, but I think this is only my second comment. I usually feel like you already have a million comments to each post by the time I get there. Your weight-loss progress is amazing and inspiring. You've actually inspired me to finally get on myself about losing weight. Thank you.

Good luck on your trip! Don't get into too much Vegas trouble!

My husband and I stayed at The Flamingo on our honeymoon. It was a perfect location I thought - right in the middle. My mom and dad always say you don't have to spend a bunch of money on the big shows - that the lounge shows are just as fun and entertaining, albeit on a smaller scale. I was too nervous to gamble at the tables - I stuck to the blackjack machines. And of course it was my honeymoon, so there was that, too.

Have fun! Can't wait to see your pics.

I have only been to Vegas once (this past summer) and I stayed at the Flamingo. It's a decent hotel, but definitely walk through the rest of the hotels on the strip. If you want to go to a buffet, I'd recommend the Bellagio. It was very good and had a suprising amount of healthy food.

If you're into such yumminess as Pina Coladas, The Flamingo has the best ones ever! At least they did 20 years ago...god, I'm old and that really sucks. But have a great time! Vegas rocks.

Tips for Las Vegas in no particular order.

1. You must go to The Bellagio to see the art gallery. Van Gogh, Monet, Rembrandt, they're all there.

2. The Mall inside Caesar's Palace is a must as well if you need to do any shopping.

3. Drink heavily but do it only in the casino. Because when you are in the casino, drinks are freeee!

4. Have a great time. Las Vegas is so much fun. You're gonna love it.

Don't take any ruphies! No, seriously, in the MGM Grand there is a small comedy club "Catch a Rising Star." I love stand up comedy and it is a reasonably priced and fun thing to do in Vegas if you can't afford the big shows.

i'm in MKE! i love Vega$! i love the Flamingo!

when you check in (can do so at the airport) see if you can upgrade your room. usually, for a teensy bit more $$, they will give you an awesome room facing the strip, rather than an old garden room in the back of the hotel. also, if you're into buffets, Flamingo's is really really good. most others are not worth it. they have a great pool too, have fun!

I *love* Vegas! We stayed at The Flamingo in April - it wasn't bad. My #1 tip? Comfortable, *supportive* shoes. No, seriously. This was my third trip, yet I was stupid enough to wear (high) flip flops the first day: gave myself plantar fasciitis and spent the rest of the trip in pain.

Have fun!

Enjoy your trip! We stayed at The Flamingo when I was there last month. Their steakhouse (Steakhouse 46) and the Burger Joint were both really good! (And offer lo-carb items)

Make sure to visit the Hard Rock Casino, which is off the strip. They just revamped it and it's AWESOME. Nobu is located there, and their sushi is AMAZING. You must try the jalapeno yellowtail roll. Pink Taco is also great.

Make sure to visit the Wynn, it's gorgeous!

Grand Canyon West is only 72 miles from Vegas (Hoover Dam is less than 20 miles), and was absolutely GORGEOUS, but you do have to pay $35 to see it.

I'll be there for most of the week of 2/21. Huh. Small country!

I have a friend who goes a few times a year. She has recommended a new bar called 5Degrees. It apparently has an ice theme.

Just what we in the Midwest really want...

Keep in mind that most of the restaurants and casinos close sharply at 10 p.m., so plan accordingly.
